Set in 2007-2008, AngeLust is the story of Monica Getty (of those Gettys), who grows up a wild Hollywood kid but matures into a major player in the entertainment biz while trying to live down her past and out-live a couple of stalkers in the process. A past which included partying at the age of 13 with the likes of Bijou Phillips, Bret Ratner and Method Man.
Monica’s boyfriend Marcus Weinman is a capitalist in his mid-thirties. Marcus was sentenced to two years upstate for breaking the Chinese Wall as a tech analyst at an L.A. investment bank. Which everybody does. But a disgruntled employee at his firm ratted out Marcus. After his prison stretch, Marcus finds another market he can work to his advantage, becoming a wine speculator in Baja, California.
As a 19-year old film school drop-out, Monica starts an indie film production company and is soon working with some old pals and some new ones, including Bijou, Stephen Gaghan, Stephen Colbert, Jay-Z and Beyoncé, Mos Def, Patti Smith, Michelle Borth, Rhys Coiro, Greg Motola, and Pete Doherty.
After prison, Marcus is barred from any official financial advising. But he helps Monica and her company with investing their profits because that’s what he does. He’s a player. Like everyone else in the story. Well, everyone except the three sex-crazed stalkers (one of whom is possibly imaginary) that Monica acquires once she becomes CEO of the hottest indie studio in town, Precious Productions. Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful, baby.
