Bewildering Stories biography
|
I was born in 1945 and grew up in Canada, in a small town near Toronto. All the literature we studied in school was written by old white men from England. I went to medical school, then did cardiology training in the U.S. I worked as an academic cardiologist for 50 years, first in Montreal, then in Connecticut and, since 1999, in San Francisco.
I was an author or co-author on more than 400 peer-reviewed scientific papers, but I yearned to write fiction. I had patients with stories to tell that stuck in my head. I began writing and taking writing courses when I was 75.
Five years later, I have almost two dozen stories published: The MacGuffin, Cleaver, JMWW, Brilliant Flash Fiction, Peatsmoke Review, Marrow, Chiron Review, etc. My work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net. When I wrote about talking condors, Bomber, Sky Girl, and Leadbelly trying to save humanity, I became an author in Bewildering Stories, a nice spot to be lodged.
I live in San Francisco with my wife Bobbi and Kerry Blue terrier Trey. I teach fiction and poetry online at the Writers Studio. Besides writing, I enjoy travel, cooking, theater, jazz and classical music.
