Samuel H. Pillsbury lives in Colorado Springs and has held highly responsible positions in a number of professions, such as prison chaplain and professor of law.

“Customer Service” has an unusual setting: a telephone call. There is no visual connection, which allows Mr. Harrison, the first-person narrator, to speculate about the nature of Darnel, the customer service representative he’s talking to. Darnel appears to be a highly qualified professional who knows just about everything there is to know about Mr. Harrison, including the time — down to the minute — left on the gadget that’s keeping him alive.
