Bewildering Stories introduces and welcomes...
Daniel Crépault
Daniel lives with his family in Embrun, Ontario. He holds a doctorate degree in Criminology from the University of Ottawa and a Master’s degree un Legal Studies from Carleton University. He is an emerging writer in fiction and has begun publishing short stories.
“Life and Death in the Abyss” makes use of the author’s legal education even though the story is set in a dystopian future, where humanity is beset by plague, and ocean-bottom colonies have been established as places of refuge.
Local security is vigilant lest hostile “topsiders” infiltrate the Challenger Deep establishment, possibly carrying plague viruses and intentions of sabotage. However, a local resident, Jonas, repelled by a security agent’s threat of gratuitous violence against a couple of topsiders, intervenes to prevent the incident and finds himself and his wife involved in a case of security threats more far-reaching than he could have imagined.
