Daniel P. Douglas

Daniel P. Douglas is the pen name for the identical twins Phil and Paul Garver. Phil retired in 2023 as a senior anlyst in U.S. Intelligence. Paul has worked for more than 30 years in the museum profession, including cultural and historical sites. He currently works as a mental health counselor. The Douglas author has won awards for science fiction and has published a non-fiction guide to writing space westerns in fiction and entertainment.

“Mathematical Showdown” evokes a standard scene in Western films: the post-medieval duel with six-shooters on a dusty main street. The doomed hero in this story’s duel has a long record of predicting mathematically how his opponent will act and react. His method works splendidly... until it doesn’t.
