Lyrical Endeavors

by Sultana Raza

In poetry when your toes you dip,
Don’t get mired in a phrasal bog.
Though to other realms you can easily slip,
Be careful you don’t turn into a hedgehog.

Trim your verses to spare bone,
Some coherent thoughts try to maintain.
About world’s problems, don’t simply groan,
Show possible responses with logical constraint.

Make sure your hero will be able to rise
Above the standards that are the norm.
If you tackle real dragons bigger than your size,
Your hero shouldn’t clash against story’s form.

A pipeline to sanity always maintain.
Try to avoid both wood and clay,
When with characters you want to play.
From normality we have much to gain.
