Feline Quiddity

by Channie Greenberg

Feral fowls’ leks provide entertainment for obdurate moggies
Waiting to pounce on, pronk near, scrummy airborne treats
(Cats’ podsnappery’s attended by mixt jubilizing actions.)

Such deliquescent beings as grimalkins, that insert themselves
Inside filled planters, else between external walls and berms,
Caterwaul all manner of blatherskite after most midnights.

Even the loquacious ones that often scare away dainty prey,
Given their feline chatter plus their unrestrained desire to
Squush neighborhood warblers, work in crimpy weather.

No matter the quantity of tree-high avians’ persiflage,
Or the intemperance arisen from too many feathery
Snacks, tabbies’ discerning eyes stay noctilucous.

Excepting “illaudable” purry, furry pusses quieted by
Personal velleity when hiding in leaves’ tessellation,
Kitties sleep blissfully, discerning life’s grandeur.
