I Woke Up in Dreamland

by Bill Bowler

I woke up in Dreamland, Lovecraft was there
Poor guy, he was looking for work
Couldn’t sell anything, hard-up and proud
Out of his element, lost and confused
I gave him a hug and we each went our way
Searching for something elusive but dear
Poe was there too, he looked surprised
To run into me there of all places
Disheveled and fuzzy he tried to hide
The sad and furtive look in his eyes
He put up a good front, tried to disguise it
Avoided my gaze, but I could see
How strung out and hung over he was even here
I wished I could help him, I wanted to truly
He greeted me warmly and set off for Thule
I headed south and never expect
To see him again in this world or the next
