Laura is a freelance medical writer who usually works on research papers. However, she has had success in writing speculative fiction. It has appeared in literary publications and she’s currently working on her first novel.

“Unforeseen Processes” will give readers insight into some potential pitfalls in the management of medical research facilities. And it will demonstrate how technical personnel might feel if their actual, hands-on work is taken for granted.

Readers may wonder why the facility that figures prominently in the story is engaged in producing artificial meat, of all things; it isn’t widely accepted today. But the setting is in a medium-distant future where such consumption has become a norm. On reflection, readers will appreciate the author’s caution in setting the story in a science-ficition laboratory and factory rather than in a real one of the present day.
