Full Speed Ahead

by Bill Bowler

Full speed ahead, wherever we’re going.
Don’t look in the rearview, nothing to see there,
It’s all a blur, don’t try to remember,
It’s over and done with, the less said the better.
It all sounded so good, but something was wrong,
There’s something the matter, you sense the tension
Beneath the surface but pay no attention,
Hurrying somewhere, anxious to get there,
Where nobody goes, from where no one returns,
Where you learn the unknown but don’t really care.
Everything seems to be up in the air.

Take a breath, clear your head, have a seat, grab a beer,
Relax, look around, try to focus, whatever,
You’ll see more or less as the distant grows near,
Through the lingering mist, we’re adrift disappearing
From sight, going over what’s left of forever,

Never again to push back at the aether.
I’ve got things to do, but not now, maybe later.
Don’t ask me what and I won’t ask you either.
There’s nowhere to go, guess we’ll just have to wait here
Unless someone else has a better idea...
