Bewildering Stories introduces and welcomes...

Maksym Popovych

Maksym is a war refugee from Ukraine and now works as a human-rights lawyer in London and Amsterdam. He finds that flash fiction is a good form for spotlighting war stories and human-rights abuses. In addition, he is interested in blending science fiction with the exploration of contemporary societal issues, such as anxieties about artificial intelligence.

Whose Eyes Are These?” has a title that should direct the readers’ attention primarily to identifying the narrator. The title and certain careful word choices in the narrative should make the conclusion less of a shock than it might have been.

Does the story overstep Bewildering Stories’ “dead narrator” guideline? Why doesn’t it? And what does the narrator imply about the spiritual nature of consciousness?
