Bewildering Stories biography
I am a retired English teacher and former journalist living in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. My previously published writing, featured in Schlock Webzine and Horla included the short stories “Terms and Conditions Apply,” “The Chance Visitor,” “SJ261623,” “Speedwell and Heartsease.”
My work has been variously described as “dark folk,” “edgy Edgelands,” “soft horror” and “speculative.” It often draws on folklore and tends to be set in rural Wales or Ireland. It's intended to be more poignant than shocking or gory, and references themes such as loss and unquenched grief. It's really pipe and slippers stuff for a dark, rainy night, although Nelly Longarms does have a bit of a bite, literally!
The published piece I'm most proud of, now scanned, framed, and hanging on my study wall, however, is my letter “Night Mail,” published in Fortean Times (FT 363; February 2018.)
