Bewildering Stories biography
A Knee-Jerk Reaction
Leslie Edens is me, a knee-jerk reaction living in Bellingham, Washington, where you can’t swing a cat without hitting a writer or an artist. I reside on a super-charged writing ley line where I write far too often of ghosts, comical vampires, transdimensional psionic aliens, paranormal gay love triangles, half-ghosts, Dickens witches, and magical teenagers.
I am currently working on my seventeenth novel — shout-out to NaNoWriMo Bellingham! My crew who got me where I am today and through the pandemic still writing. Love you guys!
I grew up in New Mexico and still spend a lot of time there mentally when I’m not here, in the City of Subdued Excitement, where I can run to the ocean or drive up to Mt. Baker for snowboarding in the same day (although why I would do that is a matter of much debate). On an average morning, I say, “Cat, move your tail!” and “Animal, I’m trying to walk through this house!” ten times and dodge a twenty-pound Calico as many times. Rumor has it that my progeny also lives in this house, although confirmation is still forthcoming.
My usual hobbies include drinking coffee and hobnobbing with other writers, and I especially love reading vampire comedy at the Village Books open mic and chatting with the other writers on the NaNoWriMo discord server. In real life, I am a freelance editor of indie fiction specializing in speculative fiction. Most recently, I wrote yet another 80s vampire book, and then a short story about an arch villain in love with the good-girl heroine. I topped it off with a novel retelling of Dickens’ classic, Great Expectations, but set in grunge-era Seattle with all the characters as witches or warlocks. Because I could. The title is Great Hexpectations.
Other fun things I have written include a novel about an alien who runs a pizza parlor (The Odd Pizza Place), and twelve YA Fantasy books about ghosts and mortals. I’m currently finishing up the last one, a New Adult LGBT fantasy called The Rabbit Hole.
Stuff can be found about my indie work and editing services at spectricity.net, where my writing blog also resides, and my indie-published books are listed here.
May the wind be always at your back and may all your pages stay dry!
