I live in rural Rhode Island, where I taught fourth grade for 35 years, publishing essays focused on life in the classroom and co-authoring a book, At the Heart of Teaching: A Guide to Reflective Practice, published by Teacher College Press.
Since retiring four years ago, I have been gardening, playing poker, and writing short fiction, of which several pieces have actually been published. Some of my shortest stories can be found at 101Words.org. ‘Hot Hand“ was going to be another 101 word story, but the narrator forced me to tell more.
