Katherine Mezzacappa
Bewildering Stories biography
Katherine Mezzacappa is Irish but now lives in Carrara in Italy. As Katie Hutton, she had published four historical novels with Bonnier Zaffre and in 2024, writing under her own name, will have two more published by Fairlight and by Addison & Highsmith.
Her guiding themes in fiction are love and culture clash, in settings as diverse as eighteenth-century Ireland, rural England in the 1920s and late sixteenth-century Italy. Writing as Kate Zarrelli, Katherine also writes literate contemporary romance/erotica novellas (Romaunce Books).
Her short fiction has been published worldwide in a range of journals and anthologies.
Katherine also works as a manuscript assessor for The Literary Consultancy (London) and for the Romantic Novelists Association (UK). She is a member of the Irish Writers Union, The Society of Authors, the Historical Writers’ Association, The Irish Writers Centre, The Historical Novel Society (where she is a regular reviewer; she was also one of the organisers of the HNS annual conference, 2022) and the Romantic Novelists Association.
Katherine is a reader for the Bridport and Bedford fiction prizes. She has a first degree in History of Art (UEA), an M.Litt. in English Literature (Durham) and a Masters in Creative Writing (Canterbury Christ Church).
