Albin Zollinger (1895-1941)
Bewildering Stories biography
“The Maze of the Past” (“Labyrinth der Vergangenheit”) is the third of the four stories collected posthumously in Die Russenpferde und andere Erzählungen (The Russian Horses and Other Stories).
Albin Zollinger was born in Zurich, lived for a time with his parents in Argentina and then returned to Switzerland where he decided to write mainly novels and poetry. His first novel Die Gärten des Königs (The King’s Gardens), published in 1921, is set in Versailles just before the revocation of the Edict of Nantes by Louis XIV in 1685.
Zollinger wrote three other novels, the last of which, Pfannenstiel, is the story of a sculptor who comes back from Paris in 1939 to settle in Pfannenstiel, a residential area that is still near Zurich today.
