Emily governs a coffee enterprise by day but, early in the morning, she writes speculative fiction with publishing success. She says her primary interest is in “the interplay of emotion and desire against strange skies.”

“The Color Xirish” will definitely pull readers into an environment where Dex, an extraterrestrial human on a strange planet, is altered enough to enable her actually to perceive the sentient inhabitants and to communicate with them telepathically. Dex even acquires a kind of boyfriend — if it can be called that — who has comforting feathery tentacles. And, as a space alien who now shares the local inhabitants’ perceptions, she can see the meanings of colours and even an entirely new one.
