Anna Villegas

Anna taught English in California’s San Joaquin Valley for more than forty years and is now retured to Nevada City, where, she says, “five generations of family ghosts” have inspired a voluminous prouction of prose fiction and non-fiction.

“When We Were Civil” was first published in 2014. The setting is an actual family home built in the wilds of the Sierra Nevada. Although the social and economic setting is post-apocalyptic, one might say that it isn’t very far removed from from the conditions of a wilderness settlement today.
