Octopus
by Shauna Checkley
Underwater ghost
Haunting the seven seas
Like a white sheet flattening
Then catching in the wind,
Scuttling across mossy rocks,
Eight-armed monster of the deep,
Eggs like precious cargo you keep
Hidden, protected.
Undersea deity,
Could you be fooling me?
Origin from off this planet?
Just why can’t it?
Study that DNA so odd,
That so-strange bod.
Are you otherworldly,
Like some star-born god?
