“Murder in the Wind” features crows debating fine points of legal and constitutional philosophy. Literary scholars might debate whether the “experimental” crows take the story out of the genre of the classical and modern fable, where animals talk and think like people but act like animals. However, the question is more complex than it might appear: the emergence of a new species of crow, one capable of human thought and communication, is part of the problem.
