Sean Krummerich

Although a native of New York City, Sean is currently a high-school history teacher in Largo, Florida. He has a PhD in History and has worked especially on aspects of nationalism and identiry in European and Middle Eastern cultures. His literary works include fantasy and historical fiction

Call of the Djinn” will surely impress readers as a remarkable combination of fantasy and cultural identity in an Arabian locale. The setting appears to be medieval, and yet the hero of the story, Ahmed, experiences a timeless — and, thereby, quite modern — blow to his faith when his family is lost in a catastrophic accident. Does Ahmed’s experience with the age-old, fantastical Djinn restore his faith? Yes, but by no means blindly; he is brought to a modern — and, again, timeless — understanding of its meaning.
