Challenge 107

Choose Two Days

  1. Slava Iatsko has given us a study in contrasts: two days in the life of an average Russian. The first day is in the twilight of the Soviet Union; the second, practically in the present. In addition to Alex’s contrasting lifestyles, the story contains layers of irony and dollops of sarcasm.

The Challenge is to follow Slava’s model. Pick any two days in the history of your life, country or society. Link the two days with yourself or one main character if you can, or with two if you must. What dates would you choose? What contrasts would you find? What character would you put on stage?

  2. On a perhaps lighter note — it’s hard to tell — choose a second day in the career of Mike Hansen’s Gnart. Now that Gnart has his promotion, the story has just begun. What’s going to happen to him next?
