“Today’s Grimm Tale” will both appall and interest readers. The extent of Nadia’s injuries and their cause will appall readers, but they will be intrigued by Nadia’s associating her pains with various folk tales, particularly those recorded by the Brothers Grimm. The connections make one think: What might stories like “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Hansel and Gretel” have really been telling their audiences in an earlier age that was, perhaps, not entirely unlike ours.
