Absurd Devices
by Brenda Mox
A choleric, red-faced pudgy
hater of everything,
embryonically convoluted
among the rubbish of life,
is a huddle of darkness on a blacker road
on a brutally hot,
siren-whining night.
Flaming eyes in a delusion’s floating brain
penetrated with a sorrowful,
hypnotic gleam
see strangeness in close proximity.
By virtue of enormous sins
regarding a burdensome existence
and tremendously tormented
mental tragedies,
to what absurd devices has he fallen?
They were alone,
mixing up their souls.
The devil himself had never fallen farther.
Two tired angels
conducted the pact in darkness,
while arty types ate the stars
and dripped the juices of his heart
while sucking up his blood.
Shot in inky darkness,
his screams subside in gasps of horror
at hoofbeats faintly fading.
