Bewildering Stories

Challenge 131

Please read Paule Libby’s review of Downfall, first.

Our Thoughts are Free

Die Gedanken sind frei

(German protest song; earliest attrib. Dietmar von Aist, 12th century)

Thoughts are free, but both inaction and action can be costly. If, as Traudl Junge says, “Youth is no excuse,” then how much less of an excuse is age? What made the difference between Traudl Junge and Hans and Sophie Scholl, all of whom were in their early 20’s? To what — and how — must one say No today?
