a correction
I need to make a correction to my editorial in issue 163. I had misremembered: my father’s bronze star was awarded for combat service in the 176th Field Artillery. The citation commends him for organization and attention to detail. He notes that from fire control to the gun crews, a lot of people had to work with all the coordination of a basketball team, and woe betide any battery whose rounds fell short.
No wonder he was picked to command the troop movements at Landshut, after the war, where everybody seemed to show up at once wanting to take the next plane out. But my point remains valid: if a young army captain can organize such large operations with military precision, put him or someone like him in charge in New Orleans... and in the administration.
