Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Charles P. Schaeffer
Charles Schaeffer’s favorite genre is mystery. He has published short mystery stories in numerous magazines and e-zines, and he has twice won the Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine’s “mysterious photo” contest. Oh, and he has also written for Esquire, Harper’s, and The Nation.
“Beauty or the Beast” retells the old story of “The Lady or the Tiger” but with a couple of new twists. The point of view is first person throughout, but it keeps changing from one character to another — including the tiger! That’s a model for new writers to study, especially those who are little shaky on letting the readers know who’s looking at what. The ending also has a neat ironic twist: having made his choice, the hero tosses the “hot potato” right back to the heroine!
