Challenge 250
Hail Luddy. What Next?
As a parting salute to Luddy, Aurelia and their friends in Gary Inbinder’s Noble Lies, we have a few questions for their faithful followers:
What do Luddy and Aurelia and their companions eat, drink, and wear?
How do their diet and clothing differ from those of Consuls Finn and Cato?
What is the significance of Luddy’s obeying Finn’s order to slay his vanquished adversary in the arena while Aurelia defies Finn and spares hers? Could both adversaries have been spared without spoiling the dramatic tension of the scene?
What is the puzzle of the Spear of Fate? Does Luddy take too big a risk in his last duel with Finn, or does he have reasons to be confident of winning?
How does Luddy’s rise to the rank of Emperor resemble that of Napoleon Bonaparte? How does it differ? What do the differences imply about Luddy’s character?
What episode of Noble Lies do you like best?
Is O. J. Anderson’s Jack Creed going soft and getting ready for retirement at the end of “Not Dead Enough”?
In Alan Frackelton’s “Abernathy’s Sorrow,” what haunts the artist from her past? We can speculate, but does it matter that we’re not told exactly what it is?
Do you think Crystalwizard’s “Port Taranus” would make a good cover for Tamara Sheehan’s Tenth Man?
