Hazy Arizona Sky

by Michael Lee Johnson

7:00 a.m.
Sonoran desert,
sleep dust covering my eyelids.
Morning fireball
hurls into Arizona sky,
baking down on cracked
and crusted earth,
makes Saguaro cactus
split its rubbery skull
flood dry and open
valley with one cup
of cool, clear,
refreshing
water.
