Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Frank Minogue
Although originally from Canada, Frank has earned degrees in the Humanities and Fine Arts from the Univ. of Texas at Austin. He has published short fiction in literary journals and e-zines.
“Sonny Boy” is a post-modern twist on a science fiction staple: interstellar colonization — or any colonization, for that matter. Apparently, colonists are visited by “clean-up crews,” who are accustomed to finding the remains and debris of slaughter; they even have a checklist where they count “heads on poles.”
It’s not clear whether colonists are done in by each other or by native aliens who find the intruders objectionable. In this case, it seems that the planetary inhabitants have mastered the art of intellectual absorption.
