Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Richard Thieme
One of our unofficial mottoes states: “There is no story so truly Bewildering as reality.” Richard Thieme’s biographical “sketch” bears it out: his bio is a Bewildering Story in itself.
The content reflects enormous vitality, breadth of experience, and literary achievement. Richard Thieme has written, consulted, and given speeches... a lot. The topics have to do mainly with computer science, internet security, creativity and innovation, as well as the role of spirituality in technology.
He’s writing two novels, one on the social consequences of official immorality and another featuring the adventures of a pair of quixotic hackers on a “romp” through the “twisted space” of the modern cyber world. Richard Thieme’s involvement in the MUFON History Project on UFO sightings in the 1940’s and 50’s stems from an incident that opens up a whole new perspective...
“Break, Memory” is a “future history” due to its form as a kind of fictional memoir. In reality, it is a subtle satirical essay on alienation and manipulation in modern society.
And for our faithful readers, here is the answer to the Challenge question: “How many ‘future’ events described in the essay have already taken place?” Well, I don’t know exactly how many, but as far as I can see, all of them have!
Richard Thieme’s bio sketch can be found here.
Welcome to Bewildering Stories, Mr. Thieme. We hope to hear from you again soon and often!
