Simple Poems

by Casey Quinn

Simple Question

question asked:
what do you want?

my answer:

I’ll take
a new car,
a new house,
a new job
and a new dvd with
that guy from the show
we used to watch in it.

shaking her head
she clarifies:

for dinner,
dear

I’ll make anything
you want.

Disgruntled Reader

I’m tired of
reading about
writing

of poems
about poetry.

in fact,
I’m tired
of reading
what I just
wrote.

“I write,
what I know”

I hear it
and pity you
if this is
all you know.

look around you.

Cool Words

I wish
I used cool
words when
I speak

but it is
not to be.

I’ve never
been jonesing for
peanut butter

nor can I pull off
the occasional
what’s up, I dig, or even
how’s it hanging.

when I see art
I say
magnificent not
bitchin’.

when I hear music
I do not utter
this is phat.

soon I will work
these words
into my
vocabulary.

next time
you hear from me
I will holler

’sup dog,
let’s bounce.
