Travis J. Gates

Travis says he enjoys zombie films and ’80s pop music. He’s published a lot of short stories and completed his first novel.

“Of Drums and Thunder” introduces Saviin, an experienced, clever warrior and a good man. The episode creates an imaginary world quite economically, and the action keeps up a steady pace in a rousing sword-and-sandals adventure worthy of film.

Saviin is a rather lonely figure: he loses a good friend in combat, and the lady he’s assigned to protect scarcely gets to say a word. But the action leaves us wanting more: “Drums and Thunder” seems to be less a complete story than the opening chapter in a novel. We hope Travis will send us more adventures of Saviin!
