Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Jeffrey A. Miller
Jeff graduated from the University of Arkansas’ Creative Writing program in 1997. He’s kept writing short stories while holding a truly bewildering series of jobs, one of which was as a pastor.
“Leaping” depicts a remnant of humanity caught between the Devil and the deep blue sea, so to speak. Their choice is to succumb to corrosive, toxic clouds gradually moving in or jumping into a mysterious portal, which may or may not transport their souls to habitable worlds.
Under the circumstances, a leap of faith and a leap of desperation seem to differ in degree rather than kind. Jumping early would be a leap of faith taken in the hope something good will come of it. Jumping late is more like a deathbed conversion, the only choice left.
The question is whether the “lunatic” knows what he’s talking about. Maybe, maybe not. How can anyone know?
