Bewildering Stories welcomes...

David W. Landrum

David Landrum specializes in horror and supernatural fiction, and he has published widely.

The Understudy” qualifies as supernatural fiction but definitely not as horror. Readers experienced in the theater have commented very favorably on the story’s realism.

“The Understudy” itself would need only a few adaptations to be made into a stage play. The ghost’s abrupt comings and goings and the actress’s facial expressions at certain points would take some creative work, but nothing that hasn’t already been done in plays such as Hamlet.

“The Understudy” might also qualify as a “well-made play”; every character, object — including the lightbulb — and scene propels the action forward while building tension upon tension.

Welcome to Bewildering Stories, David. We hope to hear from you again soon and often!
