Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Charlie Burgess
Charlie lives in Kalamazoo, Michiugan. He’s a graduate of the Michigan State Universtity School of Music. He’s a songwriter and poet.
“10-24-02” is the only poem we’ve received that has a title clamoring to be recorded in iCal. The title has the form of an abbreviated date, but is it one? And if so, what does the date represent?
The poem itself is clearer but also more mind-boggling. On the principle that every poem tells a story, readers’ reaction to the literal content is likely to be “You’ve got to be kidding.” Trying to launch a baby on a kite makes the narrator a failed candidate for a vicarious Darwin Award.
On the other hand, the poem may symbolize something, perhaps a set of philosophical premises. Or perhaps NASA engineers’ frustration at their unsuccessful attempts to launch early rockets into orbit. Whatever, this symbolism party is strictly Bring Your Own Bottle.
Charlie Burgess’s bio sketch can be found here.
Welcome to Bewildering Stories, Charlie. We hope to hear from you again soon and often!
