Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Sarah Lynne Gibbel
Sarah Lynne loves to write and manages to find time for it in between her undergraduate studies. Her favorite genres are fantasy and horror.
“Creatures” represents a mixture of genres: on the one hand, gritty realism; on the other, an equally gritty fantasy. Carrie and her mother have a classic daughter-mother conflict, and the mother’s taste in clothing and style indicate she’s not going to get the better of the argument.
Carrie forays into a patently unreal world where she is captured by genetic degenerates and almost made their slave. Carrie’s escape is made for TV, and, fortunately for her, medical science promises to reverse the contagion Carrie seems to have contracted from the “creatures.” The gist seems to be that the daughter’s fate need not be determined by her parents.
