Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Don Katnik
Don lives in Maine with his wife and two dogs. He enjoys writing and, especially, the most important aspect of writing, namely reading.
“On the Breakwater” might pass for a classic Twilight Zone episode, although the television series could never have staged the scenario believably.
As in many TZ episodes, the story involves a time warp: an outdated guidebook mysteriously leads a family of four out onto a breakwater towards a lighthouse. The father is attacked by a sea monster that is a giant-sized imitation of a toy his young son had been using to torment his sister.
But is the trek to the lighthouse “real” in the sense it’s a fantastical time warp or is it a hallucination, a false memory that replaces something monstrous the father has done? The sheriff doesn’t believe in time warps, and he’ll have a lot of questions to ask.
