“Parity” is a kind of alien-invasion story without an invasion. Two races of space aliens appear in the galaxy at the same time, and both of them are headed for Earth. One of the races is pure good; the other, pure evil. And the evil has it in for anything touched by good. What to do in the face of a Manichean universe?
Well, one strategy might have pure good turn around and draw pure evil away from Earth.
Meanwhile, Captains Guerre and Frieden discuss their options in polished conversations. And, in interludes tastefully conducted offstage, they engage in an activity that might get them court-martialed if anything came of it. Speaking of which, what would Captains ‘War’ and ‘Peace’ name their baby? Truce? Cease-Fire? Collateral Damage?
And that suggests a second option: do nothing. Pure good and evil might show up simultaneously, take one look at humanity, and flee in terror.
