Saor Hawk

Saor lives in Bloomington, Illinois, where he works in the food service industry. He would love to travel and lead a carefree lifestyle. He has published several short stories.

“The Program” depicts a son visiting his mother in a nursing home. The son yearns for his mother’s affection, but she seems more fond of a teenage girl orderly. Where does the emotional tension come from? Is the son no good? Is his mother cold? Since we have only the son’s point of view, readers have to take the story as a cautionary tale: suspend judgment when you don’t know all the facts in the case.
