Bewildering Stories welcomes...

Nancy Lane

Nancy is a graduate of UCLA and has had a long and responsible career in programming and writing software standards in the computer industry. In retirement, Nancy participates in writers’ workshops in Portland, Oregon and has two short stories in publication.

Three Marvins in a Diorama” is a kind of frame story. It takes us into virtual reality in a humorous way. Two high-school kids have created a diorama that resembles a doll house and is accompanied by a tape-recorded sound track. Vincent preserves it as a keepsake and frequently observes it.

The characters talk about their experiences at school, make puns on popular song titles, and discuss the nature of their own existence. They’re in an “Afterlife,” but it’s a kind of way station or waiting room between life and the real Afterlife. One might even say it’s a bit like literature itself.
