Every Summer Has a Story

by Stephen Ellams

What we have together
Shall remain avowed
Inside Orphic headspace
Unburdened by conscience.
Drifting flirtaciously
To Palmerston Island.
Such is our love, Kirstie
Such is our love

Every erotic kiss
Breathes life back into me
Life troubles submerge
Then dissolve completely.
Into a warm coral reef
Assured blissful atoll.
Such is our love, Kirstie
Such is our love

Your attentive green eyes
Smile and undress me
At our beach-hut retreat
Time has no meaning
Sun-drenched and at ease
Ending all insecurity.
Such is our love, Kirstie
Such is our love

So embrace the pulse waves
Surging from my heart
The hypnotic alchemy
Sacred wail of a Jew’s harp.
Imbued with such faith
That its truth is eternal.
Such is our love, Kirstie
Such is our love

* * *

In my urban wilderness
You are sweet manna to me
The threads of our lives
Weave a complex tapestry.
You deserve so much more
Than the anguish I’ve caused you.
Such is our love, Kirstie
Such is our love

* * *

All shall turn to grief
As absence becomes reason
And our Summer is slain
By reality demons
Anchored to family
Therein lies the denouement
Such is lost love, Kirstie
Such is lost love
