Bewildering Stories welcomes...
Tobacco Jones
Tobacco lives and works in the Boston area. He has published a novel and short stories that have won critical acclaim. When writing in the genres of science fiction and fantasy, he says he gravitates toward the dark side.
“Brain Antenna” exemplifies a proclivity for pessimism. Readers will come to respect and even like Marco, Wong, the “Doctor Professor” and even Hasdrubal. But these heroes meet more than their match at the hands of organized crime.
Émile Zola would have liked this story. But Zola’s heroes walk away intact at the end, leaving behind them a sinful world engulfed in flames or, in Germinal, a big smoking hole in the ground. Even in the paroxyms of the Industrial Revolution, there was hope. Today, perhaps not so much.
