“Hearing Voices” introduces Eve, who has more than three “faces,” if one couns Lionel. And does Eve have dissociative personality disorder, popularly known as “multiple personalities”? Apparently not; demon possession would be more like it.

As a subgenre, multiple-personality stories have a tough row to hoe; readers may have rather different ideas about the formula and how it ought to work. Going the horror route seems to avoid lapsing into a fictional “case study.”
