A Modest Proposal for Hell

by Douglas Young

Rather than endless fires
And physical pain,
A cacophony of cries
From the legions in vain,
Hell could be total silence
And utter solitude,
With no distractions like violence
Or punishments so crude,
But gregarious as the grave,
With the warmth of a dark, lonely cave,
Just right for eternal contemplation
Of each time we succumbed to temptation.
