Alien Skin

by Anna Ruiz

Grey and leathery
to the touch, odd serpent heads
in their alienation, they walk
among us
like abstractions we cannot see,
devoid of casual humanity.
Human skin
merely one shedding away,
their privilege
knows no bounds,
no foreign territory.

One eyelid closes,
another opens
and tongues clean their horizon.
