Matthew is from the U.S. Midwest and has had many careers, including adventurer, farmhand and interpreter of Chinese. He has published stories in several webzines.

“Defender of the Flesh” will appeal to the ecologically and physiologically minded. It will also amuse readers who like original points of view and styles. What appears to be a form of sarcasm actually strips away the pretenses of plunderers. At the end, one wonders if the Gaia principle may be valid after all.
