“The Data Eaters” will surely grip readers with its drama that takes place under a hot sun but is nonetheless a dark, cautionary tale.
The science fiction premise is audacious but deftly exploited. What if people could be equipped with an “implant” that enabled them to nourish themselves with data rather than food? Take the premise another, logical step into the future. What if the information is so trivial it can’t sustain anyone?
Readers may notice that the story is also “seasonal.” What is Agent Clarke’s expletive of choice? Take the name literally; it completes the sentence: “I was hungry and...”
