The story is a model of a monologue conducted with a “straight man” foil. Jordan’s counselor might have thought to inquire about Jordan’s “project,” but who would have thought that Jordan might go his exasperating neighbours one better? The subtle ending will make it easy for readers to guess what Jordan’s last name must be. And they’ll surely enjoy this small gem of a classic-genre revival.
