Interdiction

by Channie Greenberg

Delaying, disrupting, and destroying enemies makes giants hungry.
Despite their obvious thew, those colossi eat a forest or two, daily
Until those bellies distend, tumescent from critters that crunch.

Snaggletooth or not, ogres prefer puttoes and other fattened
Choices more than wackadoodle lion cubs or stuffed grouse.
Cryptids, other conflated species, make satisfactory desserts.

If a centaur or wildebeest invites you for dinner, hurry away!
You’re meant as centerpiece, not guest, to be chock-a-block
Full of wild herbs, mushrooms, chipmunks, also black birds.
